Hooked On Newton | Newton, MA

June 11 - 12, 2021, a fiber art group celebrated International Yarn Bombing Day (June 11) with public art installations around the City. This initiative became a community-led and curated installation where locals are the fabricators and artists in beautifying their spaces. Led by Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture staff, the group knitted, weaved and crocheted for months in preparation of the installation at the following locations:

  1. Commonwealth Ave pasture fencing in Auburndale

  2. Crystal Lake – (birch tree flowers, large bike rack, fish tale)

  3. West Newton Cinema

  4. Newton Free Library

The project offered a chance for community members to connect during the pandemic winter (creating happened over ZOOM) while also putting the power of community building through art in the hands of the people.
