Haines Square Mural | Medford, MA
After over three years of hard work and negotiation, Haines Square now has a beautiful new mural to welcome visitors to the historic neighborhood. The realization of this mural was the result of a collaboration between the Medford Arts Council (MAC), local artist Amanda Hill, WalkMedford, the MBTA, and the building property owner, as well as many members of the square’s business community. Located on the wall overlooking the parking lot at 271 Spring Street, this mural depicts scenes of Medford’s past, present, and future.
The process began as a result of feedback the Medford Arts Council received from the community about where respondents would like to see more public art. The feedback gathered indicated that more murals in the town’s business districts were a priority. As such, WalkMedford and the Arts Council sought out permission to have a mural painted at the wall on Spring Street. After canvassing the neighborhood with MAC and getting more specific input, artist Amanda Hill was able to create a design that reflected the desires of the immediate community in Haines Square.
